Thank you so much to Zanthee for the nomination! I’m not big on motivational quotes and stuff but this’ll be fun to try out xD
RULES: (close enough anyway)
- Select one quote per day for the next three days and write a little something on it
- Thank the person who nominated you
- Then nominate three other bloggers for the challenge. So today, I’ll invite the following to take part:
“There is a loneliness that can be rocked. Arms crossed, knees drawn up, holding, holding on, this motion, unlike a ship’s, smooths and contains the rocker. It’s an inside kind–wrapped tight like skin. Then there is the loneliness that roams. No rocking can hold it down. It is alive. On its own. A dry and spreading thing that makes the sound of one’s own feet going seem to come from a far-off place.” – Toni Morrison, Beloved
I was named after the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison. It is one of the most beautiful things I have ever read and is one of the precious few pieces of writing that has the power to change people. Her understanding of survival through great pain is so lyrical and precise.
This is one of my favourite quotes from the novel just because I feel it captures the breadth of her understanding. Emotions and experiences move people in different, but equally powerful ways.
